1,2,3 Benzotriazole (BTA)

The 1,2,3 Benzotriazole is being produced at our partner Nantong Botao in Rugao/China. It is one of the most effective corrosion inhibitors for copper and copper alloy used in various industries. Further positive effects can be seen in protection of steel, grey iron, Cadmium and Nickel.

Our product Benzotriazole is produced in Nantong, Peoples Republic of China at one of our partner facilities called Nantong Botao Chemical co. Ltd 

Benzotriazole and its related Na salts do belong to the most effective corrosion inhibitors for copper and copper alloys. Only workable and chemical quite identical alternative is the Tolyltriazole – information on this substance are available on this website too.

Benzotriazole does further show positive effects in protection of steel, gray iron, cadmium and nickel.

Benzotriazole can be used in different applications in major industries. For example, it is used in cooling water or boiler systems by the industrial water treatment industry. Benzotriazole can be also used in coolants. Another application is the use as an additive in industrial lubricants, like e.g. drilling and cutting fluids. It does also work to protect silver ware in dishwashing tablets and can be further used in metal detergents.

How does Benzotriazole work?

As a corrosion inhibitor, Benzotriazole decreases the corrosion rate of metals and alloys. This works by forming a coating, a passivation layer, which prevents access of the corrosive substance to the metal or alloy underneath. This is of particular importance in industries where fluids routinely need to be in continuous contact with metals that require protection.

Benzotriazole shows outstanding thermic and oxidative stability and is also resistant to UV light. It does not negatively affect the appearance of the metal it’s applied to. Benzotriazole can be considered as a non-sensitive item as far as handling storage is concerned. Under proper storage conditions, Benzotriazole has a shelf life of 24 months.

Benzotriazole is very bright in color so that solutions – either aqueous or in different solvents – are clear and almost colorless. A table of solubility properties and max concentrations is available on request.

Connect Chemicals does offer Benzotriazole in four different grades: granular, fine granular, flakes and crystals. The packing options do range from bags of 25kg to big bags/super sacks of 500kg net. Further we are able to offer product packed in fiber drum of 25kg net as well as in iron or plastic drums of 100kg net. Other tailor made packing options are available on request.
