​Consumer products:
Preservation of cosmetics, toiletry and household products and their raw materials. Phenoxyethanol is often used in combination with other active substances. In some cases positive synergetic effects can be obtained. It is used in acne treatment. Due to its low evaporation, Phenoxyethanol is used as a fixative in perfumes and fragrance.

Industrial products:
It can be used in water mixable lubricants , in paints and varnishes as coalescing agent and as a modifier in melamine formaldehyde resins. It is used as a solvent in ball pen and printing inks. Phenoxyethanol is used as a striping agent and in the surface treatment of metals as degreaser. Its biostatic abilities is often used in combination with other actives to preserve metal working fluids, glues and industrial adhesives.

Thanks to its bactericidal properties, Phenoxyethanol is used as a preservative in cosmetics. In many cases it is combined with other preservatives and shows excellent solubility properties. Phenoxyethanol creates some synergy effects with other actives. Phenoxyethanol is considered as a mild preservative in the cosmetic application. Furthermore Phenoxyethanol is used as a solvent in the fragrance industry and due to its low evaporation point Phenoxyethanol can be used as a fixative in perfumes and other fragrances.

Another possible application includes water mixable lubricants where it is used as an emulsifier, or the use in paints and varnishes as a coalescing agent. In melamine formaldehyde resins it can be used as a modifier while in ball pens and printing inks it works as a solvent. Another technical application of Phenoxyethanol is as a striping agent for paints and in the surface treatment of metals as degreaser and finally, it can preserve metal working fluids, glues and industrial adhesives.

Phenoxyethanol has the chemical formula C8H10O2. The CAS no. is 122-99-6 and the EINECS no. is 204-589-7. It is also known as Monophenylglycol or Ethylenglycolmonophenylether. Phenoxyethanol is a colorless and clear liquid that is miscible with water and other polar organic solvents, such as ethanol, propanol or propylene glycol.

Phenoxyethanol has a shelf life of 24 months after the production date, provided that it is stored in sealed containers in dry conditions at ambient temperatures. It is available in bulk, IBC and drums.
