Benzyl alcohol Industrial grade
Benzyl alcohol in industrial applications is a colorless liquid with a mild pleasant aromatic odor. It is a useful solvent due to its polarity, low toxicity, and low volatility. Benzyl alcohol is used as a general solvent for inks, waxes, shellacs, paints, lacquers and epoxy resin coatings.
Like most alcohols, it reacts with carboxylic acids to form esters.
Industrial applications
- Paint Strippers, especially when combined with compatible viscosity enhancers to encourage the mixture to cling to painted surfaces
- Degreaser in rug cleaning products
- Dying solvent for wool, Nylon and Leather
- Photographic film developer
- Insect repellent
