Poly alpha olefins (PAO)

Poly alpha olefins are widely known as PAOs. Chemically these are hydrogenated homopolymers of 1-Decene and are categorized as Group IV base oils. The low viscosity PAOs can virtually be found in every modern car engine, acting as a synthetic motor oil. PAOs are used in many synthetic products.

Connect Chemicals does market Poly alpha olefins as a product group under the brand name SinoSyn. Standard viscosities available are 10, 40 and 100 (mm²/s at 100°). Other, lower viscosities, are under development at present.

Benefits

The SinoSyn products are produced using pure alpha olefins. They do show more consistent properties - such as e.g. lower friction and higher thermal stability – resulting in superior performance compared to other base oil groups. Their high viscosity indices do lead to less film thickness reduction at higher temperatures.

Applications

  • Lubricating oils
  • Hydraulic oils
  • Cooling lubricants
  • Drilling fluids, greases
  • All kind of other metal working fluids

Shelf Life

Under proper storage conditions, the shelf life is 24 months from date of production.
