Chloranil

Chloranil is a Quinone derived by chlorination of phenol and a yellow solid powder and has various applications.

It can be used in oxidation reactions, including oxidative coupling and cyclization reaction, and for the dehydrogenation of hydroaromatic compounds.

Applications

  • It can be used in the synthesis of several dyes, particularly “Violet 23” and “Direct Blue 201” and as a tester for secondary amines detection. Furthermore Chloranil is used in the synthesis of several pharmaceutical Intermediates (5-Bromoindole, 7-Chloroquinaldine, Cloprednol-21-acetate, 2,4 Dimethylnicotinic acid, 3,1-Benzoxazines, 2,5 Diacetylamino-3,6-dichloroquinone).
  • Additionally Chloranil can act as a precursor of several APIs (Menadione, Drospirenone, Megestrol acetate, Promethazine, Mibefradil dihydrochloride, Chlormadinone acetate, Sulphinpyrazone, Mitoxantrone, Galunisertib,LanatosideC,Medrogestone,Spironolactone,Ellipticine,Cloprednol,Dydrogesterone,Mitoxantrone hydrochloride).
