Lithium nitrate
Lithium nitrate is the anhydrous Lithium salt of Nitric acid (LiNO3). The molecular weight of the product is 68,95 g/mol and its density is 2,38g/cm-3. Melting point is 264 °C, while the product will decompose at temperatures above 600°C. Lithium nitrate does dissolve quickly in both alcohol and water. As a high water-soluble crystalline Lithium source it is suitable for applications compatible with nitrates and at lower (acidic) pH. As a Nitrate it can act as an excellent precursor for production of high purity compounds and catalysts.
Applications
- Lithium nitrate can act as an oxidizing agent in special pyrotechnic devices to give a red flame.
- It may also be used in combination with other salts, particularly nitrates, to produce low-melting fused salt mixtures used in ceramics, heat-exchange media and refrigeration systems.
- It can also act in further industrial applications as a corrosion inhibitor.
Shelf Life
Under proper storage conditions, the shelf life is 12 months from production
