Description

ULTRA 20 is a hydrophobically modified cross‑linked polyacrylic acid polymer used as a multifunctional rheology modifier in cosmetic formulations. Compared to standard carbomers, it provides enhanced emulsifying and stabilizing properties, particularly in oil‑in‑water systems.

After dispersion and neutralization, ULTRA 20 forms smooth, stable gels and contributes to improved emulsion stability, texture and suspension capacity.

Functions

  • Rheology modifier
  • Thickening agent
  • Gelling agent
  • Emulsion stabilizer
  • Co‑emulsifier

Applications

  • Creams and lotions
  • O/W emulsions
  • Serums
  • Gels (clear or opaque)
  • Skin care and personal care products

Recommended dosage

  • Typically: 0.1 – 0.8%
  • (depending on formulation type and desired viscosity)
⚠️ Neutralization (e.g. NaOH, TEA, AMP) is required to fully develop viscosity and stabilizing performance.

Key benefits

  • Efficient thickening at low dosage
  • Improved emulsion stability
  • Good tolerance to oils and surfactants
  • Smooth texture and pleasant sensory profile
  • Widely used in modern cosmetic formulations
